2010 Stands alone due to extraordinary events! If it was not for the cool temperatures and the higher than normal precipitation we would have experienced just a regular WA State year. 2010 was very challenging both in the vineyards and in the cellar. Techniques and procedures during crush, not tried in our winery’s history, were pulled out of the tool box and applied. The results speak for themselves. Merlot and Syrah stand out showing depth and chewy mouthfeel already and with late ripeners Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot showing more classic and complex “Bordeauxesque” undertones of earth and spice. Whites fared very well and especially favored our Roussanne weaving blends with high levels of complexity! In regards to the extraordinary weather events one could ask the question if the wine quality is extraordinary? Well of course it is!!! It’s BLV
Each harvest, Head Winemaker Bob Swain looks for a small number of lots that are remarkable representations of both a given varietal and Mendocino appellation. While he does not find these every year, when he does they become a Parducci RESERVE wine, the best of the best. These wines are intended to be elegant today and age with grace.
The name Terra Blanca, Latin for white earth, is named for the high calcium carbonate content that whitens soils of our Red Mountain vineyard and helps produce the incredible depth and structure in the grapes. The first grapes were harvested from our estate vineyard in 1997
The Sketchbook wines proudly honors the wine-making heritage of Mendocino County. These limited bottlings seem to capture some of the free-spirited character of the locals themselves. We could think of no better way to capture the character of Mendocino than through the eyes of sketchpad artists Bill Shields and Randy Grochoske. Sketchpads close at hand, they plied the back roads, roamed with the tourists, ate with the locals, observed harvest time and ocean fishing, strolled through harbors and small towns, and recorded the striking beauty and simple charms of Mendocino.
